FloDesign is a Contract Engineering Corporation built around the application of aerospace technology to new product development. FloDesign offers contract engineering with a scientific approach. Our staff is comprised of recognized experts with many years of expertise in their related fields. FloDesign distinguishes itself from the rest of the field by its unique personnel, and the vast amount of intellectual property it owns.
Dr. Walter M. Presz, its founder, is a licensed professional engineer who has authored over twenty four patents. He is a recognized expert in fluid and mechanical system prototyping. FloDesign has recognized expertise in jet engine exhaust suppressors, mixer/ejectors, acoustics, mechatronics, and plant automation.
We have provided product development for companies like General Dynamics, Textron Lycoming and United Technologies Corporation as well as research for NASA Langley and NASA Lewis. We have over $200,000 of software available for computer modeling and analysis. We also provide patent protection where applicable. In addition to our engineering consultation, FloDesign has built a product line. We have the RAP Nozzle, Noise Suppressors and Municipality Water Shed Monitoring services. FloDesign is closely tied to Western New England College and has access to the College’s laboratories, expertise and resources when needed.

Stanley Kowalski III Chairman of the Board
Education—BS in Mechanical Engineering
Summary of Experience—Stanley Kowalski III is an experienced team builder and has successfully brought over 25 products to fruition. Mr. Kowalski has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Western New England College. While at WNEC he studied and worked under Dr. Walter Presz Jr. He worked on several projects including the Sikorsky Suppressor project. Upon graduation, he worked 11 years in a contract engineering company in the photofinishing industry. Contract engineering forces one to become multidisciplinary and efficient. Creatively integrating technologies from diverse fields and building a team to bring those products to fruition is his specialty. Stanley developed numerous products for source companies such as, Eastman Kodak, Fuji film, AGFA and Applied Science Fiction. He developed over 60 products in that industry. He returned to FloDesign in 2003 under Dr. Presz and assumed the role of President & CEO in January 2007. Stanley possesses an insatiable entrepreneurial drive and is eager to establish FloDesign as a world class company.

Art Martin Chief Executive Officer
Education— BS in Robotics Engineering, MEd in Religious Studies
Summary of Experience—Art has over 35 years of experience in mechatronics, instrument design and business management. He was President & CEO of SFA, Inc. for 16 years where he managed all aspects of this instrument company serving the pharmaceutical industry. Art recently held the position of Program Director at Foster Miller, Inc where he managed a highly visible robotics automation project for a major pharmaceutical company. He has exceptional experience in project management, mechanical engineering, control’s design and software development.

Dr. Walter M. Presz, Jr. Chief Technology Officer
Education—Ph.D. in Aeronautical Sciences
Summary of Experience—Dr. Walter Presz has over 40 years of engineering, product development, and academic experience and is licensed professional engineer in the state of Massachusetts. Dr. Presz worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for twenty years, was in charge of Propulsion Installation Technology, and has consulted extensively with numerous companies over the last 25 years. He is co-founder of Stage III Technologies in California, and founder and currently CTO of FloDesign. Inc. He is a recognized leader in the design and testing of ejectors, forced mixers, inlets, nozzles, suppressors, and jet engine propulsion components. Dr. Presz is Professor Emeritus and a member of the Engineering Hall of Fame at Western New England College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. Presz holds 26 U.S. patents, numerous other patent applications and awards, and has published 31 technical papers in his field of expertise.

Dr. Stanley Kowalski Jr. Chief Financial Officer
Education—Ph.D. in Economics
Summary of Experience—He earned his Ph.D. degree in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, two Masters degrees from the University of Massachusetts, and a Bachelors degree from the University of Delaware. Before entering academe, he worked in the Executive Offices of Supermarkets General in New Jersey and New York . At Western New England College , he taught Quantitative Methods and Computer Information Systems courses from 1973-1976, was Assistant to the President from 1976 to 1979, and became Dean of the School of Business in 1979. As dean he was responsible for all of the undergraduate and graduate full and part-time business programs totaling approximately 1300 students. The School of Business has 35 full-time faculty and approximately 20 adjunct faculty. Serving as Dean from 1979 to 2006, he was the longest serving Dean of a School in the world. In 2006 he retired to serve as CFO for FloDesign Inc.

Dr. Michael J.Werle Chief Scientist
Education—Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering
Summary of Experience—Dr. Werle is an inventor, an international management consultant, and past President of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering. In 1995 he retired from 18 years service with United Technologies Corporation (UTC) as the Director for International and External Programs in the Office of Science & Technology. He also previously served as the Head of the Gas Dynamics and Thermophysics Laboratory in UTC’s Research Center. Prior to that he was a Professor of Engineering for 10 years on the faculties of the University of Cincinnati and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He started his career as a researcher in the US Naval Department Laboratories in Maryland. He has 12 patents, advised and graduated 14 PhDs, has published over 40 papers in refereed journals and is a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He currently serves as the Chief Scientist for FloDesign and has collaborated with Dr. Presz for over 20 years in aerospace research.

Jeffrey P. King Director of Research and Development
Summary of Experience – Jeffrey P. King is an experienced aerospace design engineer with a background in many of the products FloDesign currently uses. Mr. King has a BS in mechanical engineering from Western New England College. While at WNEC he studied and worked under Dr. Walter Presz Jr. He worked on several projects developing and applying mixer-ejector technology including preliminary model testing on the Stage III Technologies noise suppressor system used on the Gulfstream GIII Aircraft. Upon graduation he worked 8 years for Stage III Technologies to bring the noise suppressor system from a concept through Supplemental Type Certification. This unique opportunity provided him the knowledge and skills to develop aerospace technology from design, through the manufacturing and testing phases. Most recently Jeffrey worked for Hamilton Sundstrand Air Management Systems as a development engineer providing a background in project management and team leadership. He returned to FloDesign in 2008 under Stanley Kowalski and Dr. Presz and assumed the role of Director of Research and Development.

Steve Fitzkee Vice President of Business Development
Education—U.S. Navy Pilot, F-4 Phantom
Summary of Experience—An experienced executive-level professional applying over thirty years of business knowledge to growth and problem solving, Mr. Fitzkee has proven expertise in management, business development, effective communications, and infrastructure development for existing and emerging enterprises. Industries include, but not limited to new product engineering and design, electro-optics, instrumentation, aerospace and general business. Mr. Fitzkee has written over 60 SBIR grants and been awarded over 15. He manages FloDesign’s ATF license and government contracts.
